WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) released the following statement after the House passed the IG Independence and Empowerment Act, which includes his bill, the Inspector General Protection Act, to enhance the independence and integrity of the federal government’s inspectors general. The IG Protection Act will require federal agencies and departments to notify Congress before enacting a personnel change, and require the President to report to Congress if an IG has not been nominated for 210 days after a position becomes vacant.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) introduced the Keeping Pets and Families Together Act. The bill will establish a grant program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture to encourage the microchipping of dogs and cats in the care of shelters.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) sent a letter with 21 Members of Congress urging the Biden Administration to extend Temporary Protected Status to 1,400 Yemeni nationals living in the United States. The Members urged Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to extend TPS status by 18 months because of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Senator Corey Booker (D-NJ) introduced the “Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act of 2021”, which bans for-profit conversion therapy. The practice fraudulently seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity based on bunk science and has been recognized by the national community of professionals in education, social work, health, and counseling as a dangerous and useless practice. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) applauded President Joe Biden for signing the West Los Angeles VA Campus Improvement Act into law. This legislation will help the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) address veteran homelessness in the Los Angeles area. In addition, it helps VA use already available funding streams for certain homeless veteran programs, thus reducing the need for taxpayer funds.

WASHINGTON  - Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles) and Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-Orange County) led a letter signed by 12 Members of Congress to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urging the Acting Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration to take action on the presence of phthalates in food and cosmetics.
