Lieu reelected to key House leadership post

November 21, 2024

U.S. Rep. Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) was reelected on Nov. 19 as vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the No. 4 position in House Democratic leadership. Lieu is the highest-ranking Asian American serving in Congress.

“I want to once again thank my colleagues for electing me to be vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus. It has been an incredible privilege to serve in this role this past Congress, and I look forward to building on our work in the next term,” Lieu said. “As I said during caucus elections, I have a lot of hope for the future. Yes, the election was not what we had hoped for. But what lifts me up is our caucus. The energy, enthusiasm and experiences that each of our members offer keep me going. It is an honor to be in this fight with them.

Lieu is currently the only veteran and only immigrant in House leadership. Prior to becoming vice chair in the 118th Congress, Lieu served as co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee in the 116th and 117th Congresses. In that role, he helped shape messaging around key Democratic priorities. In his first term in Congress, Lieu was elected Freshman Class president by his colleagues.

“Alongside our Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar and the rest of the leadership team, I look forward to working with our colleagues, our constituents and all our fellow Americans to chart a path forward that stays true to our American values,” Lieu said.

Lieu, who served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, is also a member of the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees. For information, visit lieu.house.gov.
