'History will remember': Dems vow vengeance after GOP's 'ultimate betrayal'

With President Donald Trump's massive tax break for billionaires at the expense of Medicaid and crucial public services passing the House on Thursday afternoon, Democratic officials condemned the legislation — and vowed that Trump and his supporters would rue the day.
As the vote inched closer, Democrats paid tribute to their own leadership for doing everything in their power to hold up the bill and prevent the GOP from passing it in the dead of night.
"With lives on the line, @RepJeffries spent almost 9 hours on the House floor, breaking the record for the longest speech in House history," wrote Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH). "He did it to delay a cruel vote and try to change minds on a bill that would gut Medicaid, food aid, student loan protections, and more. A valiant stand for the people."
"Thank you @RepJeffries for showing what commitment to the American people and building a stronger future for ALL Americans looks like," wrote Rep. Rob Menendez (D-NJ). "@HouseDemocrats stand united in voting NO on this bill and are going to - and will always - press on."
"Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will force thousands of our neighbors in the Inland Empire off their health insurance and it will get harder for people to put food on the table," wrote Rep. Pete Aguilar. "Proud to stand w/ @RepJeffries as he shared a local story on the House floor this morning."
Some lawmakers called out what they saw as blatant corruption among the lawmakers backing the bill, including the stock trades of Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-PA). "This Congressman literally dumped stock in a Medicaid provider company right before this bill came to the Floor. Don’t be fooled — these guys know exactly what they’re doing," wrote Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM).
But overwhelmingly, the reaction was fury at Republicans in general for ignoring nationwide protests and warnings from fiscal policymakers to pass Trump's pet policies without paying for them and with massive cuts to public programs.
"17 million people just lost health care. 18 million kids just lost school meals. 3 million Americans just lost food assistance. And $3.5 trillion was added to the deficit. All for a tax cut for Trump’s billionaire donors," wrote Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA). "The ultimate betrayal."
"No one voted to kick 17 MILLION people off their health care," wrote Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). "No one voted to RAISE the cost of groceries. No one voted to give handouts to BILLIONAIRES. Donald Trump and Republicans just sold out working people. This is a gut punch — but we will NOT stop fighting back."
"Republicans just passed the Big Ugly Bill," wrote Rep. Ted Lieu. "They voted to make health care, food, and utilities more expensive. All to give tax breaks to billionaires. We only needed 4 Republicans to vote no. Instead, they betrayed the American people. History will remember this. Disgusting."
"Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill is the largest Medicaid cut in history, leaves kids and seniors to go hungry, and bankrupts our country to give tax breaks to billionaires," wrote Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL), laying out statistics showing almost 2 million people in his state would lose coverage.
"I never want to hear a Republican say they care about 'fiscal responsibility' ever again," wrote Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT). "This bill is the largest increase in our national debt in history."
