Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) late Tuesday criticized President Trump after a report that Trump asked world leaders to contact him directly on his cellphone.

"Dear @realDonaldTrump: This is very stupid," Lieu tweeted, sharing a report titled, "Trump asks world leaders to call him on his cellphone."

"Foreign intel can monitor cell conversations using SS7 flaw. Look it up."

An Associated Press report Tuesday said Trump urged Canadian and Mexican leaders to contact him on his cellphone.

Trump's request poses the risk of having his conversation intercepted. Even government-issued cellphones are at risk of being eavesdropped by foreign governments, national security experts told the AP.

It also breaks with diplomatic protocol, which involves phone calls on highly secure phone lines

Trump’s decision to breach this protocol signals an ongoing distrust of official channels and modus operandi, according to the AP.
