The Hill: Dem lawmaker mocks Trump Cabinet meeting

June 12, 2017

In a series of tweets, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) mocked video that emerged Monday from President Trump's Cabinet meeting in which each department secretary offered praise for the president.

"Dear Great Leader [Donald Trump]: Your golf game is godlike, your wit, Shakespearean and your tweets nourish people like manna from heaven," Lieu wrote.

"To the most awesome POTUS like ever: Thank you Donald Trump for taking out Bin Laden; defeating the Soviet Union and getting us to the moon."

Lieu was referencing a Cabinet meeting in which Trump had each Cabinet secretary take a turn praising him and his policy agenda.

"On behalf of the entire senior staff around you, Mr. President, we thank you for the opportunity and the blessing that you've give us to serve your agenda and the American people," White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said.

During the meeting, the president said he had accomplished more than any other president aside from Franklin Roosevelt during his first six months in office.

"Never has there been a president, with few exceptions — case of FDR, he had a major depression to handle — who has passed more legislation and who has done more things than what we've done," Trump said.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) mocked Trump's meeting with a parody video of Schumer meeting with his own staff, who praised him before bursting into laughter.
