Dem Lawmaker Sends Trump 'Memo' of Things That 'Do and Don't Cause Cancer'

April 8, 2019

Rep Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), a frequent critic of President Trump, on Friday shared a "memo" addressed to Trump, briefing him on things that "do and don't cause cancer."

"Dear @POTUS: Your weird belief that windmills somehow cause cancer is concerning," Lieu said in a tweet on Friday morning.

"Here's a memo on things that do and don't cause cancer. We've been told you prefer one-page memos with pictures," he continued. "Hope this is helpful."

The tweet comes after Trump ramped up his attacks against wind power earlier this week, claiming that the noise wind turbines emit causes cancer.

"If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer," the president said while delivering remarks at the National Republican Congressional Committee's annual spring dinner.

He offered no evidence to support the claim at the time.

Trump also called wind turbines a "graveyard for birds."

"If you love birds, you never want to walk under a windmill, because it's a sad, sad sight," he said.

The Department of Energy has noted that bird deaths from the structures are rare.
