REP LIEU URGES FEDERAL SUPPORT OF WILDFIRE FIGHTING AND RECOVERY IN LETTERS

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent letters to FEMA and the House Appropriations Committee urging them to use federal resources to assist with the Getty fire in Los Angeles. More than 17,000 people have already been evacuated because of the fire, which has burned at least 700 acres in two days.

The United States of America should never be afraid to tell the truth and yet for too long, we did not recognize Armenian Genocide. That ends today.

REP LIEU URGES WHITE HOUSE TO EXPLAIN MASS EXODUS OF SENIOR CYBERSECURITY STAFF

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney raising concerns over an Axios report that 12 senior White House cybersecurity officials have left or have been forced out of their roles. These White House employees were charged with protecting the White House and President from hacking efforts. The weakening of their office, the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer, could jeopardize national security.

WASHINGTON Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act, or CASE Act, this week. This bill creates the Copyright Claims Board, a body within the U.S. Copyright Office to decide small claims copyright disputes.

REP LIEU INTRODUCES BILL TO CURB ENDANGERED AND THREATENED SPECIES TROPHY HUNTING

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Congressman Peter King (R-NY) reintroduced the Prohibiting Threatened and Endangered Creature Trophies (ProTECT) Act. This legislation would amend the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to prohibit taking endangered or threatened species into the United States as a trophy and the importation of any such trophy into the United States.

REP LIEU AND SEN MARKEY REINTRODUCE BILL TO IMPROVE CYBERSECURITY OF INTERNET OF THINGS TECHNOLOGY

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) reintroduced bicameral legislation that would create a voluntary cybersecurity certification program for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. “The Cyber Shield Act” will establish an advisory committee of cybersecurity experts from academia, industry, consumer advocates, government and the public to create cybersecurity benchmarks for IoT devices - such as baby monitors, home assistants, smart locks, cameras, cell phones, and laptops.
