Pentagon to halt aircraft refueling assistance to Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen

The Pentagon is halting refueling of warplanes from the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen, U.S. and Saudi officials said Friday, ending the controversial U.S. support to allies in the bloody conflict.

Saudi Arabia said it no longer needed U.S. Air Force aerial refueling because it could handle the task itself, according to a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Trump Threatens to Withhold Funds for California Wildfires; Professional Firefighters President Calls Threat ‘Ill-Informed’

President Trump blamed the latest California wildfires on “gross mismanagement of the forests,” in a tweet on Saturday.

“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests,” the president wrote.

Trump threatened to withhold federal funds from California, adding, “Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

LOS ANGELES – Yesterday, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Leader Nancy Pelosi, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee Rodney Frelinghuysen and Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee Nita Lowey expressing support for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which helps nonprofit institutions protect their communities. In 2016, Congressman Lieu sent a similar letter of support for the measure, which helps nonprofit institutions like synagogues, churches and mosques improve their security protections.

REP LIEU STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF KEY PROVISION IN WRDA THAT INCREASES WATER SUPPLY IN THE SOUTH BAY

WASHINGTON—Last week, President Trump signed into law the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 to authorize water resources development projects. The law contains a provision advocated by Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) to increase the authorization for funding the West Basin Municipal Water District’s Harbor South Bay Water Recycling Project. This project will increase the delivery of recycled water throughout the Harbor and South Bay region, improve water quality, and reduce reliance on imported water.
