Reuters: Democratic lawmakers question Kushner on New York property - letter

 

WASHINGTON, Dec 6 (Reuters) - A group of Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday wrote to Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser, asking whether in his talks with foreign officials he had ever discussed financing for a deeply indebted Kushner Companies property in Manhattan.

The property at 666 Fifth Avenue has a $1.15 billion mortgage due in less than two years, and has raised concerns among lawmakers that it could pose a conflict of interest for Kushner. (Full Story)

Daily Beast: On the Eve of Congressional Hearings, New Evidence About Alleged U.S. SOF Massacre in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia—New evidence in the Daily Beast investigation of a U.S.-led ground operation in Somalia last August further implicates U.S. Special Operations Forces directly in the death of 10 civilians. Among the new elements  is an interview with a Somali National Army soldier who says he saw the Americans firing on unarmed victims. The Pentagon has said all those killed were “armed enemy combatants.”

REP LIEU AND DEL PLASKETT CALL ON FEMA TO EXECUTE RESILIENT, ECO-FRIENDLY REBUILD OF POWER GRIDS IN PUERTO RICO AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands) led a group of 78 Members calling on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to invest in resilient energy infrastructure during Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma recovery efforts. The Members urged FEMA to invest in renewable energy technology in hard hit areas like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where outdated electrical grids have hindered expedited rebuilding efforts.

In the letter, the Members write:

LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that applications for the 33rd Congressional District’s inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will be accepted through Dec. 15. Students will have a chance to meet with a diverse group of peers from their community to discuss issues of importance and consider ways of getting involved locally. The YAC will work directly with staff in Rep. Lieu’s office to collaborate on key issues for young people in California’s 33rd district.

 That's what Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman famously said in the wake of the Civil War and it's as true today as it was then. Unfortunately, as veterans, we have little confidence that President Trump has taken Sherman's admonition to heart and this lack of understanding about the true nature of combat is alarming, especially in light of North Korea's latest ballistic missile test.
